Types of rigid body (777) dump trucks
Rigid dump trucks are another type of heavy-duty truck used primarily in mining, construction, and quarrying. Unlike articulated dump trucks (ADTs), rigid dump trucks have a fixed frame, meaning they don’t have a joint or pivot between the cab and the truck bed. Here are the main types of rigid dump trucks based on size, capacity, and application:
1. Standard Rigid Dump Trucks
These are the traditional, non-articulating dump trucks. They are used for transporting materials like sand, gravel, or rock over rough terrains.
These trucks are commonly seen in large-scale mining or heavy construction operations where the terrain is mostly stable but challenging.
Examples: Caterpillar 773, Komatsu HD785.
2. Heavy-Duty Rigid Dump Trucks
These are designed for mining operations that require hauling extremely large loads over rugged, off-road terrains. They typically have larger payload capacities, heavy-duty frames, and powerful engines.
Heavy-duty trucks are typically seen in open-pit mining and large construction projects.
Examples: Caterpillar 797F, Belaz 75710 (one of the largest dump trucks in the world)
