What Is a Bulldozer and What It Does

Bulldozers are tracked machines used for pushing, ripping, grading and bulk earthworks. Training covers blade control, ripper use, slope work, bench preparation and daily maintenance.

Course Outline (5–10 days)

Duration adapted to experience. New learners typically 8–10 days. Experienced operators 5–7 days.

Module 1 — Theory & Safety

  • Machine components, controls and hydraulics
  • PPE, pre-start checks and daily maintenance
  • Site safety, slope and bench awareness

Module 2 — Blade & Dozing Operations

  • Blade control, trimming and levelling
  • Windrow pushing, spreading and stockpile forming
  • Efficient cycle work and interfacing with dump trucks

Module 3 — Ripper & Heavy Duty Work

  • Ripper operation, controlling pull and depth
  • Rock and hard material engagement techniques

Module 4 — Practical Assessment

  • Simulated production runs and recovery
  • Emergency stop, immobilisation and fault reporting
  • Final practical assessment and theory check

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years, basic literacy
  • Reasonable fitness and ability to access cabs safely
  • ID, safety boots and high-visibility clothing required
