What is an ADT (Articulated Dump Truck)?

An ADT is an off-road heavy truck designed for hauling bulk material over rough ground. ADTs are widely used on quarries, civil sites and mines. Training includes articulation control, safe tipping, loading techniques and basic machine maintenance.

Course Curriculum (5–10 days)

Module 1 — Safety & Theory

Machine anatomy, articulation and load centres
Site safety, traffic management and spotter communications
PPE, pre-start checks and defect reporting
Stability, tipping hazards and weight distribution

Module 2 — Controls & Manoeuvring

Controls familiarisation and smooth modulation
Articulation steering, reversing and limited-visibility techniques
Gradient handling and braking on loaded runs
Safe travel speeds and load securement

Module 3 — Loading, Payload & Efficiency

Effective loading cycles and truck interface
Payload optimisation and cycle time improvement
Spotter coordination and loading zone traffic flow

Module 4 — Practical Scenarios & Assessment

Simulated production cycles and fault handling
Emergency stop, recovery and machine immobilisation
Final practical assessment and short theory check
Accredited certificate issued on successful assessment

Entry & Re-registration Requirements

Minimum age 18 and basic literacy
Reasonable fitness and ability to enter/exit cabs safely
Bring ID, safety boots and high-visibility clothing
For re-registration bring previous certificate and ID
